Stuff just keeps disappearing round here. Surely "The Veil" with Boris Karloff isn't copyrighted, there were 10 episodes up here now I can't find any.

I know you can get the 'Jack the Ripper' episode on a Alpha DVD comp. and Platinum Disc released two sets of the series.
So I would guess it's okay. I read somewhere that the series didn't get it's copyright renewed because it was 'lost' and forgotton about.

They started "publishing" this show during its original 28 years copyright period. It was shown on TV in the 1960s and licensed episodes turned up on video in the mid eighties before the renewal date. Then they didn't renew the series. Even if they want to say that the show wasn't publish until 1985 they still fall into the problem of having a copyright notice (1958) that is more than a years difference from publication (1986), so without a subsequent registration they have failed to compliy with formalities and lost copyright after 5 years. There is no way this is under copyright.

I really hope that the IA is not being sent Cease and Desist orders by any of the PD distributers that carry this show (Alpha, Platinum/EchoBridge, Something Wierd, Madacy, Brentwood have versions in print and Timeless Media Group are about to put out a deluxe version too.) I believe that is illegal in the US. I know it happens in other places. I once got a C&D to stop producing a DVD set of the Rathbone Holmes movies, which are all PD in Australia, from an English company that manufactures an unlicenced collection of the films in a market were they are not Public Domain.

Wow, that's incredible knowledge/research. Respect!
Hope the series returns to the archive, very soon, then.

Actually, whilst we are talking about Karloff TV series. Do you know about the copyright status of 'Boris Karloff's Thriller' from 1960. That would be cool to upload.
Thanks in advance.

66 of the 67 episodes of Thriller had their copyrights renewed. I have compared the USCO's renewal list with the show's episode guide on IMDB. As far as I can ascertain the episode that was not renewed is 2x12 "The Return of Andrew Bentley" Air Date - 11 Dec 1961.

Just did a search for The Veil and they seem to be available on the archive. I don't know if these are the uploads everyone is looking for. They seem to be pretty lo-res versions.

Episode 1: Vision of Crime
Episode 2: Girl on the Road
Episode 3: Food on the Table
Episode 4: The Doctors
Episode 5: The Crystal Ball
Episode 6: Genesis
Episode 7: Destination Nightmare
Episode 8: Summer Heat
Episode 9: The Return of Madame Vernoy
Episode 10: Jack the Ripper

Yes that's them. The other day they weren't showing up at all. Maybe IA's search engine was being crappy again, although the keyword "Karloff" just pulled the "This is your life" on here.

I think The Veil is great. Anyone got any better copies?

Thanks again video-cellar for the research and copyright info on 'Thriller'. Pity they didn't let more than one episode slip out of this fine series.
